Dreaming of a Dead Person Talking to You

In this post, we will uncover all the possible meanings and interpretations of a dead person talking to you in your sleep.

General Meaning – Dreaming of a Dead Person Talking to You

There is no one-size-fits-all interpretation of dreaming about a dead person talking to you. The meaning of your dream will depend on factors like who the deceased person is, what they say to you, and how you feel in the dream. But generally speaking, these are the 3 meanings.

Dreaming of a Dead Person Talking to You Meaning

Fear – Sometimes, a dead person talking to you may be a natural response to our own mortality or the death of close ones. We might be concerned with our frailty or the fragility of others around us, and we frequently have time to worry about the worst possibility that could occur, which is death.

Missing Loved Ones – Seeing a dead person talking to you in your sleep might also indicate how much you miss a deceased loved one. You likely think about that person often, and you want to speak with him or her again. Other times, you may have unresolved issues or questions for that individual, and you want to understand what happened to them.

Symbolic of an Ending Phase – This may be a signal that it’s time to move on from persons that should have departed your life already. You may be having problems letting go of toxic relationships, for instance.

It’s possible that death is leading you to pursue something more tangible in order to get out of the problems in your waking life that are not assisting your mental, emotional, or spiritual well-being.

Different Meanings – Dream of a Dead Person Talking to You

Now that we know the general meaning of dreaming about a dead person talking to you, let’s take a look at some of the different ways this dream can be interpreted.

Talking To Your Dead Mother In Dreams

Dreaming about your dead mother and speaking to her might be an indication that you are about to have some difficulties and will be forced to handle them without time to consider the best answer. Such a dream may indicate the need for someone’s assistance.

Alternatively, it can symbolize good conclusions after dealing with problems and obstructions on the road ahead. If your mother died in reality, such a dream could reveal your sadness and grief at her death.

Dream of Dead Sibling Talking to You

This dream is usually not a good indication as it might suggest guilt or anguish over your sister or brother, as well as unresolved issues regarding them that you couldn’t resolve while they were alive.

This dream might also signify arguments with family members. This dream may be pointing out some issues and problems you have with them. Therefore you should do your best to address them and try to resolve them as soon as possible.

If your sister or brother is alive and you had this dream, it is a reminder that you should settle things down quickly.

Dream of Dead Friend Talking to You

A dead friend talking to you in your sleep means that you miss them and wish to revisit the memories you shared. If they are not dead, this dream is a reminder that you should reconnect with them before it is too late. Or on the other hand, this may be a method of coping with their death if they are no longer alive.

Dreaming About Talking to Your Dead Child

Talking to your child in your sleep could be very distressing, but it’s your subconscious attempting to resurrect him. If you lost your kid in real life, that might be a particularly tough dream to have, but it’s frequently done as the unconscious way of dealing with the loss and accepting it.

Anytime you dream about your dead child talking to you, it is due to not being able to accept this event, and your defensive mechanism keeps you dreaming about your kid as if he or she were still alive.

These fantasies act as a method for you to get used to the difficult truth that your child is no longer with you.

Dream of A Dead Person and Asking to Go With Him

When talking about a person, may it be a stranger or a friend or a family member, isn’t a good indication, especially if you have accepted the invitation in your sleep.

This nightmare means that you may soon be in serious danger in your waking life, potentially that your health will go downhill, or you’ll be miserable. Unfortunately, this could also mean your own death on rare occasions.

Dreaming About Your Dead Mother Saying She is not Dead

Seeing and speaking to your dead mother in your dream and her saying that she’s not dead can be a traumatizing experience, and it is usually an indication of your refusal to accept her death.

This dream reflects your sorrow and loss over your mother’s passing away. It might also be a signal of unresolved issues you were unable to tackle with her while she was alive, which are still weighing on you.

Dreaming of a Dead Person Talking to you in Islam

As a Muslim, dreaming of a dead person talking to you could be interpreted in a few ways. It might suggest that the person who died is in need of your prayers and du’a.

It could also be interpreted as a warning from Allah, telling you to repent for your sins before it’s too late. This dream might also be a sign that someone close to you will die soon and that you should avoid having pending issues with anyone.

Talking to Dead Grandparents that Offered Their Help

Talking to deceased grandparents who previously offered their help represents receiving some unexpected good news. You can interpret this dream as an indication that some kind of danger is currently affecting your waking life.

Lastly, it could mean that you are aware of a particular risk in your real life and that you unconsciously want assistance.

If you didn’t follow in your grandparents’ footsteps in the dream, it indicates you will successfully overcome any challenges you encounter.

Dreaming About a Dead Person Talking to You Biblical Meaning

Dreaming of deceased family members is not unusual, whether you are a Christian or not, and can become quite distressing and traumatic.

As a natural part of life, we’ve all had loved ones who have passed away, and when they do, dreams with them may begin. However, in the Old Testament, Jesus and the Apostles of old did not communicate with the dead.

There is no biblical passage that highlights such interactions as God has always prioritized resuscitating the dead rather than talking with them.

Dreaming Of a Dead Person Talking to You Spiritual Meaning

When you dream of a dead person talking to you, it can be a bit disconcerting, but it’s not as uncommon as you might think.

There are a number of different spiritual interpretations of this type of dream, but the most common one is that the person in your dream is trying to send you a message. It’s possible that they need to tell you something important or offer you some advice.

The dead person in your dream may also represent some aspect of yourself that you’ve been repressing. Alternatively, they could be a symbol of your own mortality. This latter interpretation is more likely if the dead person in your dream is someone close to you.

  1. What does it mean if you dream about your dead father dieying for the second time and on the day of burial they wake to say I never talked to you when I was dieying

    Reply
    • The second death of your father signifies acceptance. Finally, you’ve processed your grief and loss. The dream stands for the end of your pain, regret, and denial and signals the start of a new period of healing.
But if your deceased father wakes up during the day of the funeral, it means you two still have unresolved issues.
Maybe there was a project you were working on together, but his death cut it short. Perhaps he wronged you somehow, but didn’t get the time to clear things out.
Your father says “he never talked to you when he was dying” because he wants to bring your attention to the unresolved issues. It is also a reassurance that he will always be there when you need his guidance and support. You just have to look deep into your heart.

  2. Hi
I dreamed about my niece who passed in an accident. In the dream I was about to write a letter to a profet about my strugles and the things I need help with. My death niece came and told me “i have asked people to pray for you there they are” and I saw them and both went to them to pray for me but I know one of the people she used to work with my niece and she had 3friends with her

    • Although your niece has crossed over, her spirit is still reaching out to you.

Not only to offer you comfort amid hard times but also to encourage you to face your struggles. The dream could also signify the end of your current life challenges.

  3. Great article! My mom passed away a few years ago, following my father’s passing a few years before that. Both were unexpected. I’ve been having very vivid dreams about them both for years, but last night had an intense dream of my mom & I “preparing” for her death. We were packing up her stuff, I was emotional and upset, but asking her if she was excited to join my dad again, etc. She was not upset at all in my dream, but I woke up mid-crying. It was awful for me, and very different than any other dream I have ever had in the past (such as her telling me she wasn’t dead, or finding her and/or my dad in a random place, and even once she was leaving on a cruise, etc. I have even had dreams where they are in my bedroom and I know it’s their spirit, that they aren’t alive.) I have never dreamt where we were discussing and preparing for her departure. Any thoughts or insight?

    • Despite all the years that have passed, you still miss your mother and wish she were alive. You also desire the comfort and protection she offered you.
On top of that, the dream could mean you’ve finally overcome your grief and let go of your mother. That explains why you’re helping her pack for her departure.
The dream is a sign to move on with your life and stop clinging to the past.
Although your mother is no more, she still lives on through your memories of her.

  4. My wife has been sick the past few days, she already has health problems and early this morning I heard her calling our deceased son’s name. She started complaing about her chest hurting and I took her to the hospital. I literally live in front of the hospital. When we where sitting there everything stopped like it never happened. When I asked her what’s going on she said she saw our son and he was reaching out calling for her to come with him. She said she told him to hold on, and he faded away and everything went with him.
Our friend just lost his wife and another lost there pre-mature baby. What is my son telling her, nows not the time to lose someone is at this time, already lost my grandmother on Christmas eve

    • While your wife’s dream might sound scary, it doesn’t necessarily portend her death.

It’s quite normal for sick individuals to have vivid dreams, some of which might include interaction with deceased loved ones.

These dreams often stem from the overwhelming stress and anxiety caused by sickness. The visions are also related to the fear of death.

  5. hey, what does it mean if i had a dream about a family member i never personally met besides when i was a baby? i have no memory of her but in my dream i texted her and she responded. i only remember talking about how she was beautiful and i loved her makeup and she also was telling me that the people in the morgue were judging her and they were saying rude things about her body? we talked about more i think but i can’t remember.

    • Since you’ve never met this person before in your waking life, the dream symbolizes an aspect of your personality or psyche that you’re not aware of or that’s dying. This mostly relates to your talent.

Another interpretation is that the vision is a way to connect to the person’s spirit or energy or to explore the unknown part of yourself.

  6. Hello. I dreamt of my sister who died in 2017. The dream was very vivid and she looked happy. We hang out and I had the best time of my life I didn’t want her to go… it’s my first time dreaming of her and I kept apologizing coz I felt guilty for not praying for her as often as I should. What’s weird was she was wearing a tshirt with an eye drawn on it and she had long nails and one of it was shaped like a horn. She was a good person that goes without a doubt but I can’t help but feel concerned like is this a bad sign? Please help me interpret this dream.

    • Since this is your first time dreaming of your sister, it means you miss her a lot. Chances are, you think of her often and desire to speak with her over and over again.

On the other hand, the dream could represent unresolved issues. Is there something that you want to tell your sister? Or do you have questions for her? The dream could also reflect your guilt.

As you’ve mentioned, you didn’t pray for your sister as often as you should have. This guilt eventually manifested in your subconscious mind, resulting in a dream where your sister appears, wearing a t-shirt with an eye and nails looking like horns.

But worry not, this vision is not a bad sign. Your sister is happy in her afterlife. That explains why she is smiling while hanging out with you.

  7. Dreams of running away or escaping someone or something often represent the feeling of being threatened or pursued in your waking life.

And since you saw a gun, it means you fear someone wants to harm you. This could be a friend, a colleague, a family member, or someone you don’t even know.

Whatever the case, always be on the lookout. The woman wearing an ancient dress and telling you everything will be okay symbolizes the source of comfort in your life.

Alternatively, it might be your subconscious way of reminding you that you have everything (strength, wisdom, courage, and resources) you need to face your current life challenges and hurdles.

  8. I had a dream about an ex-bf whom passed away 7 years ago. We were sitting on a bench and he was holding me as I was crying hard like I didn’t want him to go then we walked away from each other as it went foggy and I woke up to actual tears falling down my face… I felt it was such a sad dream that I don’t really understand.

    • Most dreams about deceased romantic partners tend to bring up intense emotions and can lead to confusion and sadness.

In this dream, it appears you experienced a moment of closure with your ex-lover. It’s a sign you finally overcome your grief, guilt, and sadness.

Sitting with him and holding each other show a moment of emotional support and comfort. You are crying because deep down you love him and didn’t get the closure you needed when he passed away. Waking up with tears running down your face implies the boyfriend held a special place in your heart.

As a result, your subconscious mind is trying to process your feeling of sadness and longing for his love.

But worry not! He’s in a better place. Let him rest in peace, and please move on with your life, focusing on your happiness and peace of mind.

    Reply
    • Such a dream represents your desire to connect with friends and family who have passed away, or whom you haven’t talked with for a long time.

It reflects your desire for closure with these individuals, particularly if you have unresolved issues or unfinished business.

The dream also denotes a lack of enough care, support, and warmth in your life. This holds, especially if you are going through a difficult time.

  10. Three nights in a row I’ve dreamt about dead relatives,my dad, my gram and aunt, one each night. Every night each one of them were alive and said unusual mean things directly to me.

    Reply
    • The dead relatives in your dream say mean things because you have unfinished business or unresolved issues with them.

Maybe you did something bad to them in the past and never asked for their forgiveness. It’s also possible you didn’t pay attention or visit them while they were alive.

Sometimes, the dream might not even relate to your deceased relatives. It could be a representation of your suppressed negative emotions or a reflection of your self-criticism.

    • We are sorry for your loss and that you’re dealing with disturbing visions.

But worry not! Your dream does not portend a bad omen. Instead, it’s a reflection of your grief.

You are yet to fully process the loss of your son. Maybe you blame yourself for his death and feel guilty and sad. It is also possible you feel disconnected from him.

This dream encourages you to forgive yourself and find healthy ways to cope with the loss of your loved one. For example, you can express your feelings by playing music or talking with loved ones.

I won’t lie this has me paranoid a bit.

    • Your dream shows that you miss your departed grandfather and aunt.

It’s possible they positively influenced your life and helped you grow into the individual you are today. And despite their passion, you desire the comfort and guidance they offered.

Alternatively, the dream could point to unresolved issues, especially if you didn’t get closure from them. If so, figure out the unfinished business or unresolved conflict to overcome guilt, paranoia, and grief.

    • Dreams of talking to a deceased loved one(husband) represent an attempt by your unconscious mind to process the pain and loss you experience.

Sometimes, the dream relates to unfinished business or a desire to meet and connect with your loved one.

In your vision, your departed husband is concerned about your health for genuine reasons. You may be dealing with stress and anxiety or feeling overwhelmed due to some unresolved emotional issues.

This rings true because you saw yourself in the mirror and could tell you were sick. The dream urges you to prioritize your physical and mental health. Find effective ways to deal with stressors or challenging situations in your waking life.

Conversely, your vision could be a message from your husband from the afterlife. It suggests that your husband is safe and at peace and wants you to move on and find comfort in life too.

  13. Hi. Interesting article. My late husband took his own life. I am the one who found him but it was too late to save him. I held him in my arms and prayed for his soul. Since then he has appeared in my dreams and is always reassuring me of his love for me. What are your thoughts?

    Reply
    • Sorry for the difficult circumstances around the death of your husband.

However, your dream is not a negative sign. Instead, it’s a reassurance from your late partner that he loves you so you can find closure and peace.

Consider the vision as a way for your subconscious to process your grief and emotions and comfort you. The manifestation of your late husband in your dream space also alludes to healing and spiritual support.

The universe wants you to overcome your pain and heal. And the best way to do that is to allow you to connect with your husband in the dream world.

  14. Hi
Thank you for this post. I have had 2 visits from my mum since she passed away nearly a year ago.
The second visit a couple of weeks ago was almost a reassuring dream. Until the last thing she said “by the way your dad is sorry he couldn’t say goodbye” when I asked if he was joining her she replied “yes, thankfully”. I was woken at this point by my dog as I was upset in actual life as well as dream. My dad is still with us…
Was this mum telling me dad doesn’t have long?
    Thanks

    • Visitations in dreams are quite common and could have a variety of meanings.

In your vision, your mother pops up to reassure you that she’s alright in the afterworld and you should not worry too much. The dream also shows that you’re scared about the idea of losing your father, considering your recent loss of your mother.

It’s your subconscious manifesting your anxieties and stress related to your dad’s health and well-being. The vision also reflects your concern for your father.
